Migrated Site to WebAPP NE

Coding and Web Design

Well, after spending a few months adding back in my slide show and calendar, I’ve converted my site to WebAPP NE. Please let me know if anything doesn’t work quite right. My main reason to convert to WebAPP was to not have to start from scratch in writing my own comments system.

BSU Won!

Mind the Gap

Sorry if you aren’t from Boise or a football fan, but Boise State University won the Fiesta Bowl game today against Oklahoma University. Final score was 42 to 41 in overtime. It was a hell of a nail biter and the best football game I’ve watched! Go BSU!

Happy New Year - 2007!

Mind the Gap

Well, 2006 is winding down. It has been a very interesting year. I remember looking forward to 2006, but in the end I’m not sure there were enough happy moments to cancel out the sad ones. As we close the book on 2006, one can only look forward and be optomistic that 2007 will only be better. Happ

More BlogCal Fun

Coding and Web Design

JackDeth recommended a two calendar blog, and it was a note worthy challenge. I still need to package it up, but there are now two calendars at your disposal. If nothing else, I was able to clean the code up a bit and make it a bit more modular. So, anything else?

Blog Cal Working!

Coding and Web Design

Well, I have my Blog Calendar Mod working. You can now click the date and it will displays articles on that day. Took me a bit to figure out all the different routines that WebAPP uses to do things, but once I found the right code, it doesn’t look too bad. Now, I just need to package it up and g

Blog Calendar Mod

Coding and Web Design

Working on re-creating my Blog Calendar as a Mod for WebAPP NE. I think I have the MOD fleshed out, but I may have a slight problem. It doesn't appear that WebAPP can display articles based on date. 🙁 Maybe I should be creating a Blog module. 😃

WebAPP Back-end

Coding and Web Design

I’ve changed out my back-end Perl scripts using WebAPP — Web Automated Perl Portal System. The task of writing my own scripts to allow comments, article management, and all the security around them seemed more effort then I had time.

Photosynth

Mind the Gap

I ran across this cool technology today from Microsoft Live Labs called Photosynth. Basically, this software allows you to view a collection of photographs in using a 3D browser. They have a Tech Preview that completely blew me away.

Fun With Images

Fun With Images

I finally got around to updating the top of the site with a nice picture. It is one of a number of pictures I took during my business trip to Singapore last year. I liked the colors in the harbor along with the interesting skyline.

RSS Update

Coding and Web Design

Okay, you probably won’t see any differences, but my blog is now a valid RSS feed. Okay, may not seem by much, but I was actually trying to get it to work in IE7. If you have IE7, or other reader that recognizes the <categories> tag, you should see my categories as well.

In My Head

Music

I uploaded a new song to my ACID Planet Site today called In My Head. Something I started on the plane today to pass away the time. I wanted to put together something that felt like things weren’t right — like something is in my head, needing to get out. Interestingly, this isn’t at all how I was feeling, just what I musically wanted to mix together. Enjoy.

Inform 7

Mind the Gap

I was over at the Informary today and noticed that there was a new version of Inform out! To my surprise, Inform 7 had been released. After reading about it a bit, I had to download it and give it a spin. Graham Nelson decided to try a different approach to creating interactive fiction using natural

Hate You Again

Mind the Gap

I added a new song to my ACID Planet site last Tuesday called Hate You Again. It is my submission to the Distorted Reality Contest. I really liked the vocals and tried to use them to drive the song. The “hate you again” stood out to me and I used it to frame the mix. Enjoy. With the demise of AC

Updated ACID Planet Picture

Updated ACID Planet Picture

Well, I didn’t add any new songs, but I did add a new image to my ACID Planet site. I used a photo I took when camping a few years back. I played around with filters and special effects in Microsoft Digital Image Suite to set the mood I was looking for. I think it came out pretty nicely.

Croak

Music

Okay, was playing around with ACID loops again. I've added another song to my ACID Planet site called Croak. This time, I’m playing with different sounds and beats to get a unique feel. Again, this one isn’t very long, so enjoy!

Speed Me Up

Music

I added a new song to my ACID Planet site called Speed Me Up. I took an Asian melody and threw various electronic and heavy riffs at it. Not very long, unlike my earlier attempts, so give it a play!

Updated My Geocities Site

Mind the Gap

I updated my GeoCities Imagination web site the other day to add a link to this site. I’m really disappointed with GeoCities since Yahoo! picked it up. Ever since they dropped ftp, making it a pain to update it, I haven’t added any content. Their update tools aren’t bad, just a pain.

XBOX 360 Can Blog

Mind the Gap

This is hilarious. You can now have your XBOX 360 blog. So funny! Picked this up from Major Nelson. My Xbox 360 isn’t too chatty now, but I’m sure as I spend more time playing Oblivion, the more it will speak out. Looking at others, it does get a bit repetitive.

Playing into Oblivion

Mind the Gap

Okay, I broke down and bought The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the XBOX 360 yesterday. I had some free time today, so I spun up the DVD drive and took the game for a spin. I spent a little over 3 hours working my way towards the first quest, exploring the countryside as I go.

A Blogging We Will Go

Mind the Gap

So, I decided to try to play in the wild new world of blogs. In true “do it yourself” fashion, I created my own little method of creating blog files. Sure, it doesn’t look any different, but it should make it easier for me to add stuff. Okay, so I have the story files working.

That Calander Does Something

Coding and Web Design

Oh, that little calendar I said was worthless now actually does something! It now links back to the story files for a particular date. Also, I updated the design a bit to make the side bar floating and not merge with the footer.

What, another change!

Coding and Web Design

Well, yes. Another change! Okay, one that is for the better. I updated the slide show to use JavaScript to rotate the images. It is less annoying and doesn’t mess with your history. The other change is the addition of a calendar. Yes, a completely useless update. Sort of.

Although the display isn’t much different, the code behind my site has changed a bit. I’ve converted the site layout to CSS, no more <table> layouts. It takes a bit more work to get CSS to look right, but I think it is worth it. Most of the other changes are in the back end so that I can now start working on other site content.
