Loving the Rush at Shoshone Falls

Shoshone Falls, Twin Falls, Idaho, 2024 by Steven Reid

We took a road trip early in the spring to Twin Falls to see Shoshone Falls. Known as the Niagara of the West, Shoshone Falls is quite a show and definitely worth the trip. We picked a time of year when we knew the falls would be at their fullest. We were drenched with mist getting out of our cars. Although not the best photo I took of the waterfalls, it captures the power of the water rushing over the ledge. A spectacular sight that I felt made a great top image for my blog.

From Abstract Aliens to Cosmic Baristas: My Quest for AI Artistry

Coffee time. 2023 by Steven Reid

Hard to believe, but I’ve been futzing with AI art on NightCafé for a month now. I’d dabbled with DALL-E for some time, but not consistently. The social aspect of NightCafé is probably the biggest draw. Besides sharing content and seeing what others have made, but I get prompt ideas and support. Perhaps the biggest advantage are the challenges. I‘m slowing getting better. Today, I got into the top 20% for the third time in an official daily challenge.

Let Freedom Shroom! July 4th Mushroom

Let Freedom Shroom! July 4th Mushroom.

I haven’t done a short blog post in some time but today is an opportunity. I’ve been playing around with AI generative art using NightCafe. It is quite a fun community. Whether you love or hate generative AI, it is the narrative of the day. Always one to try out technology, it is interesting to see what things emerge from various prompts.

A New Year of Challenges to Overcome Breeds Opportunities

Melba, Idaho, 2023 by Steven Reid

With any new year comes a unique set of challenges. For 2023, that includes a number of external pressures that will shape the year to come. From managing inflation, a burgeoning recession, and controlling what you can, the year is looking to be one filled with both struggle and opportunity. Facing that head on, I signed up for a 50K that I ran last week. A picture from that run now sets the tone of my site.

Beach Fun for 2022

Beach, Steven Reid, 2021

January has rolled around and it felt fitting to update my blog’s title screen image for the New Year. I was fortunate enough to get away to warmer areas and was able to capture this picture. It is my mood of late, looking out towards the horizon. My goal is to make this blog relaxing and open, a refreshing place to come and enjoy life for a bit. Perhaps a lot of what I share is looking back with my retro work. But there is that mystical quality to it all. If anything, I can relax with a drink each time I visit my site. Hope you can as well.

My Blog Image For 2019 Is A Playful Sea Turtle

Sea Turtle, Steven Reid, 2019

Although I enjoyed that moon picture on my blog, it’s been there far too long. In looking for something new in 2019, I decided to use a picture of a playful sea turtle. The photo, taken while I was in Mexico in January, shows the backend of the turtle as it swims away. I thought that fitting for my blog where I hope you take a bit of each article with you when you leave.

Playing Around With Wordle: Elevating ZX81 Content Through Word Clouds

Playing Around With Wordle: Elevating ZX81 Content Through Word Clouds

It isn’t all programming around here! Some days it is fun to just play around. I was adding an image to my other site which led to me reviewing some of my old Flickr images. This got me playing around with Wordle again to see what Tag Clouds I could build form the ZX81 articles.

Flickr LEGO Fun

Flickr LEGO Fun

Flickr has become my new favorite place to share my LEGO creations. I tend to use Facebook for family and friends, mainly because that is what my family and friends use. But I digress. It is pretty easy now to use available tools, mine being Windows Live Photo Gallary, that allow easy publishing. That means more time building and less time cropping and uploading. In all, a good use of technology.

Reflective Fun

Coding and Web Design

I’ve been using Reflection.js for some time now to generate reflective category images. I did this mainly to avoid having to create the reflections by hand. However, it has always had a bit of a lag when generating the reflections. This can be a bit jarring at times, but I’ve gotten used to it.

Fun with Reflections

Coding and Web Design

In playing around with iTunes, I really like the way the CoverFlow looks, especially the reflections. So, I started searching around to see if there was something similar for Vista. I didn’t find any finders, but I did run into a few javascript scripts that had some neat features.
