January’s Program: Water Bug II
Try to grab the treasure again in this multi-stage ZX81 video game. Can you beat all ten boards?
I did it! After a lot of recording, cleaning, and tweaking I was finally able to get Water Bug II loaded! Hit the link, wait for it to load, then hit enter to give it a whirl. Then use the 5, 6, 7, and 8 keys to move (left, down, up, right) just as they are on the ZX81 keyboard.
Water Bug II was a sequel to Water Bug and included 10 more boards to get through. The major change was a nice intro screen and transitions between the boards. I had a lot of fun making this game, but as I look back on it, I probably should have included lives instead of making you restart the game from the beginning. For the most part it is a pretty easy game, so perhaps that transgression can be forgiven.
Although not quite complete, Water Bug II is the first program to run under the new site design. You can also view a program listing. I still need to finish the ZX81 listing system which will include program descriptions and categories. At least this is a step in the right direction!
