I geeked out a bit today by loading Ubuntu onto an old laptop that I’d been having problems running Windows on. Seems the issue was a bad hard drive as it started to slam the drive head against the stop during the first installation. I pulled a drive from another broken laptop to fix that problem and started over.

Once complete, I then got to work making it look like a Mac. I found the hack Our Life on how to use Macbuntu to convert Ubuntu to look and feel like Snow Leopard in one easy step! Well, two as I ran the patch as well. I think it came out pretty good.

I liked the water drops better than the default OS X wallpaper, but it still feels right. The only problem that I've had is that this laptop has horrible I/O that causes it to get very sluggish when memory runs low. If I can find some spare DDR2 RAM, it might make a decent laptop. For now, I just need to be careful what I run.
